Leave and rosters

Shifts, rosters and leave that payroll understands

Plan who works when, run leave with your own policies, and let both flow into attendance and paid days without anyone re-typing them.

How do rosters work?

Three layers. Shift templates (start, end and break). A weekly pattern per worker that says which shift — or an off day — applies on each weekday, from a date. And one-day overrides for swaps and cover. Anyone without a roster falls back to your default shift.

Does it handle night shifts?

Yes. A shift that ends before it starts crosses midnight, and check-outs in the early hours of the next day are counted to the shift's own date, so a night worker never looks absent.

What leave policies can I create?

As many leave types as you need, each with its own rules: paid or unpaid, an annual quota, accrual up front, monthly or none, a carry-forward cap, whether half days are allowed, and whether approval is needed. You choose the month your leave year starts.

Loss of pay is always available, and the sandwich rule — counting offs between leave days as leave — is a switch.

How does comp-off work?

Turn it on and a worker who works on a weekly off or a holiday is credited a comp-off day automatically, with an optional expiry.

Who approves leave?

The worker's reporting manager, with admins always able to decide. Workers apply and cancel pending requests from the worker app and see their balances, which Clockroll calculates from accrual and history rather than storing by hand.

How does leave affect pay?

Approved leave becomes part of attendance, as paid or unpaid days according to the leave type, and payroll reads those paid days directly.
